DARLINGTON/LAMONT TOWNSHIP - Hans O. Geissbuhler, age 89 of Lamont Township, WI, died on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Lafayette Manor in Darlington, WI. He was born on July 25, 1925 in Willow Springs Township, WI to Fred and Minnie (Locher) Geissbuhler. Hans graduated from Darlington High School in 1943. He was a United States Army Veteran and served during World War II from 1944 to 1946. Hans was awarded a Purple Heart for the wounds he received in action in Germany. On October 1, 1949, he married Lorena Schmitz at Holy Rosary Catholic Church Rectory. After 62 years of marriage, Lorena preceded him in death on January 21, 2012. Following the war, Hans attended UW-Platteville to study bacteriology and take the dairy course. He was a Cheesemaker for 30 years and had a reputation for being meticulous and excellent at his craft. He also worked as a milk inspector for Grande Cheese for 25 years.

Hans was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Bates-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel-Roelli American Legion Post #214 and of the Darlington Country Club. He was an avid storyteller, captivating his listeners with his war stories and discussions about cheese. In recent years, he shared his personal World War II experiences with his family and friends who were able to record his historical stories. Hans enjoyed his family and always said that his children were good, his grandchildren were perfect, and his great-grandkids were his reason for living.

8 grandchildren;

3 step-grandchildren;

12 great-grandchildren;

5 step-great-grandchildren;

his sisters-in-law: Betty (Bill) Hughes and Katie Geissbuhler both of Darlington;

nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorena, in 2012; his son, John Geissbuhler, in 1991; a son-in-law, Jim Rickard; his siblings: Fritz Geissbuhler, Annie Huntington, Walter Geissbuhler, and Rudy Geissbuhler; and a brother-in-law, W. Edward Schmitz.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at HOLY ROSARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 104 E. Harriet Street, Darlington, WI with Fr. John Bosco Pudhota officiating. Burial and Full Military Honors will follow at Holy Rosary Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 pm on Monday, March 23, 2015 at STEIL CAMACHO FUNERAL HOME, 206 E. Harriet Street, Darlington, WI, and also from 10:00 - 11:00 am on Tuesday prior to the funeral at HOLY ROSARY CATHOLIC CHURCH where a eulogy will be given at 11:15 am.
