BRODHEAD - Gordon "Gordy" S. Gilbertson, age 84, of Brodhead, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by friends and family, on Wednesday, January 14, 2009. He was born on September 5, 1924 to Gustav and Olga (Skattum) Gilbertson. He married Jessie Marie Hawkins on August 27, 1966 at the EUB Church of Brodhead.
Gordy attended Argyle Public Schools and was baptized and confirmed at Argyle Lutheran Church. He worked at several farms in the area. He was employed for 20 years at Universal Foods of Brodhead and later employed for 15 years by the Brodhead Street Department until retirement. He was a long time member of the United Methodist Church of Brodhead. He enjoyed spending time in his yard riding his John Deere lawnmower, playing pool with his brother and playing euchre with friends and family, but most of all, he enjoyed playing with his constant companion, Bandit.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jessie; a daughter, Lora (David) Buss, Brodhead; two brothers, Dean (Lois) Gilbertson, Monroe, Roger Gilbertson, Darlington; one sister, June (Steve) Lusk, La Crosse, WI; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Kenneth, Clyde and Lyle; and three sisters, Opal Ommodt, Margaret Stauffacher and Elaine Skattum.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at the United Methodist Church, Brodhead, with Pastor Steve Groves officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Monday, January 19, 2009, at the D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD.
A special thank-you to the Beloit Regional Hospice for all of their care and kindness, and to family and friends for all the sleepless nights, support, and loving care.
