FREEPORT - Gertrude Katherine Moest, 79, of Freeport, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2011. She was born in Blanchardville, WI on February 18, 1932, the daughter of Adolf and Nina (Bachmann) Zimmerman. She graduated in 1949 from Albany High School and she attended Harper Beauty College in Madison, WI. She owned and operated her own salon in Brodhead, WI prior to her marriage.

She married Anton Moest on October 6, 1956 in Brodhead, WI. They farmed together in the area for many years. In her spare time she pursued many interests including sewing, quilting, gardening, volunteering, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years: Anton; four children: Denise of Madison, WI, Steve (Janeen) of Winslow, Kathi of Madison, WI, James (Jolene) of Lena; eight grandchildren: Abby, Becca, Grant, Elizabeth, Jacob, Ben, Nicole, and Jacquelyn; one brother: Adolph of El Paso, TX; two sisters: Martha Elmer of Albuquerque, NM, and Betty Brugger of Albany, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday, December 5, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Timothy Barr officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The Rosary will be recited on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at 2:30 pm at Schwarz Park Blvd. Chapel, 608 S. Park Blvd. Friends may call from 3:00 to 6:00 pm on Sunday at the Chapel. A memorial fund has been established in her memory.
