Geraldine A. "Jerry" Smith, age 74, of Monroe died on Monday, May 4, 2009 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. She was born on August 1, 1934, the daughter of John and Aurilla (Staffeil) Bowen, in Abbotsford. She was a graduate of Colby High School. In August of 1952, Geraldine and Clifford Smith were married at the Zion Lutheran Church in Colby, whom she later divorced. Jerry is retired from working at Total Water in Madison, where she worked for many years. She is a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Naomi Circle; and a member of the Sons of Norway.
Surviving is her mother, Aurilla Bowen of Colby; children, Marvin (Pam) Smith of Sun Prairie, Cathy Smith of Monroe, Scheree (Charles) Krueger of Sun Prairie; grandchildren, Shawn (Tricia) Smith, Nikalas Krueger, Daccia Krueger, Laura Thompson, all of Sun Prairie; great-grandchildren, Carley and Kiera Smith of Sun Prairie; sister, Shirley (Michael) Wiese of Colby and a niece and a nephew. She is predeceased by her father, John Bowen.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2009 at the Grace Lutheran Church, 1025 15th Ave., Monroe, where friends may call on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. John Tabaka. Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home is handling local arrangements.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established in Jerry's memory.
