Genevieve (Gen) Counselman

Genevieve (Gen) Counselman died on January 15, 2016 at Azura Memory Care, Monroe. She was born to Henry and Rufina (Finey Rinehart) Metcalf on August 17, 1919 at the Deaconess Hospital in Monroe. Gen was a lifelong member of St. Victor's. She attended the St. Victors School in the original old building with the flight of stairs in the front. She was a member of the St. Victor's Lady's Altar Society. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1938. She worked at many establishments in Monroe, her first job being with the United Telephone Company, Monroe, and last at Central Supply in St. Clare Hospital. On June 13, 1946 she married Philip Counselman in the St. Victor's Church Rectory. They enjoyed 62 wonderful years together, 36 of those years were spent in their home next to Cadiz Springs State Park, Browntown.

She was preceded in death by her husband Phil, a sister Charlene Johnson and her youngest daughter Lynn (Alan Stewart) Fox. She is survived by her daughters Beth (Terry) Kramer of Baraboo, Jill (John) Norton of Oshkosh, Dean (Deb Shutvet) Counselman of rural Monroe; 5 granddaughters, Katrina (Gary Diny) Kramer of Middleton, Sara (Brian) Klawikowski of Neenah, Michelle (Ben) Anderson of Milwaukee, Molly (Eric) Smiltneek of Oshkosh and Makayla Counselman of Washington DC, and 9 great-grandchildren.

Gen was always working on some sewing project - sewing was her passion. Over the years she made clothes for her daughters and doll clothes for the daughters and granddaughters. She also enjoyed making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls for family and others. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who gave of herself to family. She is finally at peace and reunited with her husband and daughter.

The family wants to thank the staff at Azura and especially Monroe Clinic Hospice for their care of our mother.

A private family burial and Mass will be held at a later date.
