Gary Lee Godfrey, age 68, of rural Argyle, WI, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born November 26, 1944 in Monroe, WI, the son of Raymond and Esther (Buetzer) Godfrey. Gary graduated from Mount Morris High School in Mount Morris, IL, in 1963. He lived in the Argyle area most of his life, where he hauled milk for Biggs Cheese Factory for seven years. Gary later worked as a seasonal worker for Swiss Colony and as a Mechanic for many years. In the early 1980s he worked at Argyle Industries, where he stayed for 10 years. Gary then drove truck for Cenex in Monroe and Dan-Co FS in Argyle delivering fertilizer, feed, and seed until he had to retire due to health concerns.
Gary is survived by one daughter: Julie (Gary) Cox of Brodhead, WI; one grandson Shane Reaves; lifelong companion: Diana Severson of rural Argyle; four brothers: Ronald Dean Godfrey of Tomah, WI, Dwayne (Gloria) Godfrey of Monroe, Roger Godfrey of Weyauwega, WI, and Kim (Suzanne) Godfrey of Monroe; one sister: Marilyn Blum of Monroe; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gary was an avid musician and played guitar for Arnie Alme and the Country Kings for over 20 years. He enjoyed working on cars and listening to old country records.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Erickson Funeral Home, 801 East Milwaukee Street in Argyle with Rev. Dennis Perger of Jordan Lutheran Church in Browntown, WI, officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in rural Argyle. A visitation will be held Tuesday, January 15, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com.
