MONROE TOWNSHIP - A fire caused an estimated $32,000 in damages at a home northwest of Monroe on Monday afternoon, June 3.
The fire originated in an all-terrain vehicle parked in a lower-level attached garage in the W7100 block of Voegli Road, according to a news release from Monroe Fire Chief Daryl Rausch.
Monroe firefighters responded shortly after 5:30 p.m. and "found smoke pushing around the garage doors," Rausch said. The Polaris Ranger ATV was fully engulfed and the fire had spread to other
garage contents.
Rausch said the fire was sparked most likely from an electrical short in the ATV's dash and engine compartment. Damages are estimated at $12,000 to the vehicle and $20,000 to the garage and its contents.
Firefighters were able to get the fire quickly under control. Damages were confined to the ATV and basement-level garage, with smoke damage to the adjoining basement and upper-level garage.
Green County deputies and firefighters from Juda, Browntown, Monticello, New Glarus and Brodhead assisted.
