SOUTH WAYNE - Frederick J. Gerber, 86, of South Wayne, WI, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2009 at the Lena Living Center in Lena, IL. Frederick was born on December 3, 1922 in Warren, IL. He was the son of John and Alice (Shaw) Gerber. He married Doris Hodgson at the First Lutheran Church in Freeport, IL on September 1, 1945. Doris preceded him in death on February 29, 1992. On December 4, 2000 Frederick married Florence Staley in Darlington, WI she also preceded him in death on July 9, 2005. Frederick and Doris farmed in Lafayette County, WI for 50 plus years. He enjoyed playing Slow Pitch Baseball for many years in Gratiot, WI as well as playing for the Iron Horse Team in Lena, IL. He also enjoyed playing cards and going fishing.
Surviving are: a daughter, Linda McCord of South Wayne, WI; 2 sons, James (Ruth) Gerber of Stockton, IL, and Gary (Cindi) Gerber of Winslow, IL; a sister, Barbara Wolfe of Phoenix, AZ; 9 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 3 step-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife Doris and wife Florence; and a daughter, Kathryn Andrews on June 22, 1979.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday January 14, 2009 at the Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home in Warren, IL.
Pastor Randy Hockema will officiate the services.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home Warren, IL.
Burial will be held in Blazedale Cemetery, South Wayne Township, Lafayette Co., WI.
A memorial has been established in his name.
