DARLINGTON - Francis A. "Swede" McQuaid, age 90 of Darlington, WI died on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Memorial Hospital of LaFayette County, WI.
He was born September 26, 1922 in LaFayette County, WI to Frank and Elizabeth (Remfrey) McQuaid.
He was a US Army Air Corps veteran and served during World War II in North Africa and Europe. He was the recipient of the Flying Cross Medal.
Swede was married to Martha B. Jean on September 18, 1948 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington, WI.
He was manager of Rural Electric Association formerly LaFayette County Electric Coop until his retirement in mid 1980's.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington and the Darlington Bates O'Brien Howe Wiegel American Legion Post.
He was a former member of Darlington City Council and LaFayette County Board of Supervisors.
Swede is survived by a son: Steve (JoAnne) McQuaid, a daughter: Diane (Scott) Zywicki both of Darlington, 6 grandchildren: Tricia (Scott) Burke of Stoughton, Tanya (Edward) Schoonveld of Yorkville, Illinois, Steve Matt (Jacque) McQuaid of Appleton, Shawn (Joy) McQuaid, Camron and Braden Zywicki all of Darlington, 12 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Hedy Ruef of Darlington, Annie Berg of Post Falls, Idaho, brother-in-law: Otto Jean of Darlington, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Martha, five sisters: Lois Ganshert, Elizabeth Lab, Fidelis Nelson, Bernadine McQuaid, Miriam Morgan, and a brother in infancy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 104 E. Harriet St., Darlington, WI with Fr. Randy Budnar officiating. Inurnment will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM till 11:15 AM on Tuesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. The STEIL CAMACHO FUNERAL HOME, 206 E. Harriet St., Darlington, WI is serving the family.
