Flora L. Knipfer, 93 of Burbank, Illinois, died Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe. Flora was born on August 20, 1922, in Walsburg, Utah, the daughter of Johny Percival and Elsie Marie (Burkhart) Heward. She graduated from high school in Park City, Utah and attended Utah State University in Logan. Flora married Chester Harry Knipfer on January 7, 1945 in San Diego, California. The couple moved from New Auburn, Wisconsin, to Chicago in 1954. Flora was employed as a general foreman for the U.S. Postal Service for many years.
She is survived by three children, Sherrill (Thomas) Kelly of Monroe, Wisconsin, Carolyn (Charles) Kitzman of Itasca, Illinois, and Thomas Knipfer of Burbank, Illinois; a brother-in-law, Glenn Shields of Layton, Utah; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chester, on June 4, 1997; five brothers, Clyde, Ralph, John, Merrill, and Harold Keith "Pete" Heward; and five sisters, Evelyn, Margaret, Marie, Elaine, and Betty.
Cremation rites will be accorded and a celebration of Flora's life will be held at a later date. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family.
