WIOTA - The Wiota Fire Department was dispatched at about midnight Tuesday to a structure fire on North Road in Wiota township.
According to Wiota firefighter Jeff Munson, no one was inside the two-story home when the fire began.
The house and contents were a complete loss.
Munson said the cause of the fire is not yet determined, but he said the fire started in the kitchen and went through the walls, where it spread to the attic.
Munson said the owner of the home, Lloyd Huston, had been making improvements to the home, with intentions to live in it. Huston often is at the house on weekends, Munson said.
Huston had put a new roof on the house and had a new furnace installed about two weeks ago.
The house was located just north of the village.
Woodford, Gratiot, and Darlington Fire Departments assisted at the scene.
