Evelyn R. Imobersteg (Bendorf), 89, of Orangeville, IL passed away peacefully early on March 24, 2012 in Neenah WI.
Evelyn was born August 25, 1922 on her family farm in Lancaster, WI. to John and Leta Bendorf. She was one of 11 children. Evelyn worked as a phone operator and as a file clerk for the US Armed Forces during WWII in Madison. Later she worked as a telephone operator in Orangeville. In 1963 Evelyn moved to her current home in Oneco and worked until retirement at Bahr's Variety Store in Monroe.
Evelyn was united in marriage to Alfred E. Imobersteg on August 27, 1949, in Galena, IL. Alfred operated a family farm with his brother (Arnold). Alfred and Evelyn met at a dance hall in Galena at a Lawrence Welk concert. The two of them spent many years sharing their love for dancing on weekends.
Evelyn enjoyed gardening. Her creativity and 'green thumb' came together at her home in Oneco where visitors would enjoy her beautifully kept flower garden. She enjoyed her knitting group and her weekly Bible study at Orangeville United Methodist Church. Evelyn enjoyed poetry, writing several poems about her life. She loved crossword puzzles and had compiled her own crossword puzzle dictionary. She dearly loved spending time with her family and watching her great-grandchildren grow. She and Alfred took several trips together. They enjoyed watching and listening to John (son) play in touring bands. One later trip, taken with grandson Nathan remains cherished.
Surviving family include her son John (Doreen) Imobersteg of Neenah WI, grandson Nathan (Sarah) Imobersteg and great-grandchildren Alanna, Mallory and Ethan Imobersteg of Platteville, WI, step-granddaughter Gina (Matthew) Knudsen and great-grandchildren Matthew, Gabriella, and Jacob of Sonoma, CA. She is also survived by her sisters Betty Riechers of Darlington WI, Shirley (Lester) Broihahn, Beverly (Eldon) Peacock of Lake Geneva, WI, brother-in-law Arnold Imobersteg of Orangeville, her sister-in-law Maxine Bendorf of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. and all of her many dearly loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her husband (Alfred, 1998) her brothers LaVerne, Stanley, and Donald Bendorf, her sisters Dorothy Wilson, Marion Stark, Donna Nickel, and Geneva Niemer, and her sister-in-law Lilly Bowen (Imobersteg).
Funeral services will be Wednesday , March 28, 2012 at Orangeville United Methodist Church at 10:30AM, Pastor Cheoneui Oh officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:30pm at Cramer-Leamon Funeral Home in Orangeville, IL. and from 9:00 am until time of service on Wednesday at the Church. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe with a reception at the church following the burial service.
