NEW GLARUS - Mr. Eugene E. Webber, age 86, of New Glarus, WI passed away at his home on April 26, 2016. He was born September 15, 1929 at Middleton, WI the son of Edward and Helena (Hohlstein) Webber. As a child Gene and his family moved to New Glarus, and he graduated from New Glarus High School in 1948. He served in the United States Air Force from 1948 to 1949. On July 30, 1950 he was united in marriage to Betty Ann Baebler at the Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello. After returning from the Air Force Gene hauled milk from 1950 to 1979 and then worked for Interstate Periodicals in Madison until retiring in 1992. During his retirement he continued to drive shuttles for those riding the bike trail in New Glarus. Gene was a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus, New Glarus Lodge #310, New Glarus Masonic Chapter, Zor Shrine, and was Past Patron of the New Glarus and Monticello Order of the Eastern Star. He had also served on the New Glarus Village Board and was the Weed Commissioner for the Village of New Glarus. Gene was an avid hunter and hunting dog owner and had spent many hours afield over the years. He always had a friendly wave when you met him on the road, and loved to use his gift of gab to share a story or dispense a little philosophical advice.

Gene is survived by his children Kirk Webber and Kara Webber and a grandson Jackson Schiro. He is further survived by nieces Marlene (Don) Johnson and Melva (Dave) Genschaw, great-nephew Charles (Cami) Andrews, great-niece Melodie (Dan) Ace, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty, and a sister Arlene Schneider.

A Masonic service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Ave., New Glarus, WI. Burial will be in the Swiss Church Cemetery with military honors.

Relatives and friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2016 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home in New Glarus.
