NEW GLARUS - Erwin L. Zweifel, age 80, passed away on Sunday, September 06, 2015 at the New Glarus Home. He was born on the family farm in Green County, WI on April 8, 1935 to his parents Henry and Margaret (Schneider) Zweifel. Erwin graduated from New Glarus High School in 1953 and then went on to graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville earning his Bachelor's and Master's degrees. He served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. On June 7, 1958 he was united in marriage to Kay Itten at Monticello, WI. Erwin started his teaching career in Evansville where he taught Agriculture and later taught Agribusiness, Business Math, and Sales & Marketing at MATC from where he retired. He also served on the Mt. Horeb and Evansville School Boards and was a lifetime member of the FFA Alumni. Following retirement Erwin was very active in the New Glarus community he served as Village President, member of the Mannerchor and Jodlerklub, school bus driver, funeral assistant, the Wilhelm Tell Play, Stuessy Kuenzi Legion Post #141, and volunteered with many other local organizations. He was a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus serving on the consistory and singing in the choir.

Erwin is survived by his wife Kay, children James Zweifel, Renee Moldenhauer, Margaret (Jerry) Hook, Jennifer (Preston) McMahan, and Michael (Tanya) Zweifel, grandchildren Eric and Sarah Moldenhauer, Melanie and Cody Hook, Ireland, Ryleigh, Piper, and Perri McMahan, and Trevor and Eliza Zweifel. He is further survived by a sister Pauline Bohn, sisters-in-law Edna Zweifel, Teddy Zweifel, and Doris Zweifel, brother-in-law Bud Post, sister-in-law Naomi Meland, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gary (Jane) Itten, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Palmer, Delmar, Herbert, and Robert, and sisters Katherine and Lorna.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at the Swiss United Church of Christ, 18 Fifth Ave., New Glarus, WI with the Rev. William Wineke officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Ave., New Glarus, WI.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
