JUDA - Ernest H. Thommen, age 83, of Juda, passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at the Monroe Clinic Hospital, Monroe. He was born on September 15, 1928 in Lafayette County, WI, the son of Francesca and August Thommen. He married Janet Arnsmeier on March 19, 1955 at the Evangelical United Methodist Church, Monroe.
Ernest was raised in Clamine, WI and worked for different cheese factories as a cheese maker. He and his wife owned the South Wayne Cheese Co. for many years and made wheel Swiss cheese, retiring in 1982 and moving to Juda. Ernie was a gymnast and was involved in Turn and Schwing in Monroe, attending many competitions. He was also an avid bowler, participating in many bowling leagues and tournaments and loved to attend softball games. Ernie was also a past member of the Moose Lodge, Monroe.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Janet; special nieces and nephews he considered to be his children, Heidi Miller, Scott Phillip, Kim and Tami Trotter; several other nieces and nephews; 20 Godchildren; sisters, Helen Thommen, Madison, Clara (Kenny) Harwick, Rockford, IL, Hedy Assing, France; brothers, Fred (Deb) Thommen, Monroe, Larry Thommen, Cuba City; sisters-in-law, Joyce Trotter, Ramona, Lucille and Lila Thommen. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Clarence, Glen and Chris Thommen, two sisters, Louise and Suzie, a niece, Tami Trotter Francois, and a nephew, Steve Zimmerman.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, May 14, 2012, at the Zion United Methodist Church, Juda with Vicki Blantmeyer officiating. Burial will be in the Stateline Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD, WI and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the church.
