Elaine H. Schmidt age 89 of Monroe, WI, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2015 at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe. She was born October 4, 1925 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Carl and Gladys (Malott) Johnson. Elaine was united in marriage to Harold Schmidt on February 15, 1944 in Chicago. She worked as a temporary office worker for a number of years before she and her husband moved to Union Grove, WI, to farm. In 1965, they moved to rural Argyle, WI, where they farmed for 18 years. Elaine and Harold also owned and operated Country Ceramics in Argyle for over 25 years, retiring in 1999. Elaine moved to Monroe, WI, in 2006.
Elaine is survived by five children: Bobbie (Ariel) Thomas of Monroe, Arthur (Juanita) Schmidt of Kenosha, WI, Victor (Kari Dixon) Schmidt of Madison, WI, Claire (Jeff) MacLennan of Monroe, and Lorri (Michael) Keough of rural Monticello, WI; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband in 1985.
Elaine was a member of Lamont United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, baking, and quilting. She also loved to bowl and was able to do so until she was 88 years old. Elaine will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 20, 2015 at 6 P.M. at the Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle (801 E. Milwaukee St.) with Rev. Mary Gafner of Washington Reformation United Church of Christ in Monticello, WI officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Argyle.
