Edward L. Hughes, age 83 of Monroe, died at his home on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 with his family by his side. Ed was born December 30, 1932 in Linden, WI, the son of Francis and Ruth (Benson) Hughes. He graduated from Mineral Point High School and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1956. He married Nancy Swenson on March 8, 1958 in Hollandale, WI. Ed owned and operated E&N Hughes Co., Inc. of Monroe for 41 years. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Monroe Moose Lodge #754, Monroe V.F.W. Post #2312, and the Eagle's Club. Ed enjoyed taking trips to Las Vegas and watching NASCAR.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Hughes of Monroe; three sons, Paul F. Hughes of Hollandale, Terry L. (Laura) Hughes, and Todd A. (Teri) Hughes, all of Monroe; six grandchildren, Paul Hughes Jr., Dale Hughes, Kristi (Ryan) Hughes Wuthrich, Jessica (Martin Jr.) Akins, Ryan Hughes, Joe Hughes; four great grandchildren, Cyrus and Olive Akins, and Levi and Zoey Hughes; and two brothers, William of Dubuque, and Tom of Mineral Point. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, two brothers, and a former daughter-in-law, Bonnie Hughes.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Reverend Todd Hackman officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe, followed by a luncheon at the Monroe Moose Lodge. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
