PLATTEVILLE - Edward E. "Butch" Mayer, 64, of Platteville died on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at his home. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Dickeyville. Father Bernard Rott will officiate. Burial will be at Holy Ghost Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, at the Melby-Bendorf Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville or from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church. Edward was born on July 5, 1947 in Monroe, WI, the son of Gerald and Rosetta (Baertschi) Mayer. He was united in marriage to Annastasia Sprosti on August 27, 1981 in Lancaster. As a young man he worked at Jerry's Citgo in Monticello, WI he then moved to Monroe to work at Hans Service Station until they moved to Platteville where he worked for Kohns Auto Body and most recently working as a mechanic at Rural Excavating. He also was a volunteer firefighter in Monticello. Ed enjoyed horseback riding, deer hunting, Farmall Tractors, being outdoors, making Sunday morning stops in Ellenboro, and having family hayrides at the farm. He is survived by his wife Ann; children, Lisa Mayer of Roanoke Rapids, NC; Jody (Larry) Hendricks of Platteville; Judy (Jon Smith) Mayer of Crystal Lake, IL; Justin (Erica) Mayer of Potosi; seventeen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; mother, Rose of Orangeville, IL; seven sisters, Sharon (Jim Briggs) Andrews of Orangeville; Marsha (Gordon) Gempeler of Monroe; Kristine Strehlow of Oshkosh; Rebecca Neuenschwander of Gladwin, MI; Diana (Dewey) Curran of Browntown; Melanie Drake of Orfordville; Michelle (James) Stauffacher of Albany; brother, Timothy L. (Stacey) Mayer of Albany; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald in 1997 and infant sister, Jacqueline Lynn Mayer.
