Douglas Ever Hanson, age 71 of rural Argyle died on Thursday, November 26, 2009 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital in Monroe. He was born on May 31, 1938 in Madison to Ever & Dorothe (Johnson) Hanson. He grew up in Argyle and attended school in Argyle, graduating from Argyle High School in 1956. He attended the UW Madison for a time, and then joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served from 1958 to 1960 and achieved the rank of Sergeant. On August 11, 1963 he was married to Karin Rae Smith in Yellowstone Lutheran Church. He worked selling insurance for Thorpe Insurance, Mutual Of Omaha, and other companies, and later, in the last few years he enjoyed working and selling cars with his son at Hanson Motor Company in Monroe. Doug enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, reading the paper, doing crosswords, listening to conservative talk radio and TV, and watching the beloved Packers and Badgers. He also loved to follow horse racing. After Doug's divorce in 1986 he raised his six remaining children at home by himself.
Doug is survived by nine children, Hans Hanson of LaCrosse, Erik (Sara) Hanson of Newton, Iowa, Thurston (Elizabeth) Hanson of Monroe, Chandra Blair of Newnan, Georgia, Laura Hanson of Stoughton, Adam (Lisa) Hanson of Blanchardville, Kara Hanson of Farmington, Minnesota, Lois (Joshua) Alexander of Lafayette, Indiana, and Leif Hanson of Janesville; three brothers, Russell (Suzanne) Hanson of Westby, Sam Hanson of Monroe, and Terrence (Cathy) Hanson of Janesville; 23 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his former wife.
Funeral services for Douglas Hanson will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Yellowstone Lutheran Church in rural Blanchardville. Rev. Daniel Bohlman will officiate. Burial will be in the Yellowstone Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday evening, December 1, 2009 from 4:00 until 9:00 PM at the Saether Funeral Home in Blanchardville.
