Dorothy M. Kesler, age 93, of Menomonie, WI passed away Friday, April 27, 2012 at Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie.
The former Dorothy Hartwig was born October 02, 1918 in Monroe, WI to Frederick W. and Nettie J. (Schneider) Hartwig. On December 25, 1937 she married Wilbur J. Kesler in Dubuque, Iowa.
Dorothy worked at Montgomery Ward Store in Monroe, WI for 16 years as a bookkeeper. In 1962 they moved to Birchwood, WI where they operated the Wil-O-Dot Resort on Big Chetac Lake for 12 years. In 1974 they moved to Cameron, WI where they operated a Laundromat until retiring in 1986.
While in Monroe, Dorothy started the "Hi Neighbor" Homemakers Club. Upon moving to Birchwood she continued her interest by joining the Happy Homemakers Club. In Cameron, she was the secretary for the Business Association for three years. After her husband died in 1992, she was the secretary for the Widow & Widowers Club in Rice Lake.
Upon moving to Menomonie in 2002 to be closer to her family, she continued her interests in her favorite activities at the Senior Center and women's fellowship of the First Congregational Church-UCC and her hobbies of oil painting, crocheting, knitting, sewing, crafts, flower and vegetable gardening and of course country music.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Steve) Wood of Menomonie, WI, a brother Frederick "Peg" (Margaret) Hartwig of Monroe, WI.
She is further survived by her four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father and her husband Wilbur.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, with Rev. Rob MacDougall officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2012 at Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe, WI.
