MONROE - Dorothy E. Stauffacher age 87 of Monroe, Wisconsin, died Monday, September 13, 2010 at the home of her daughter. She was born August 1, 1923 in Monroe, the daughter of Edward and Isabella (Monteith) Scharer and graduated from Monroe High School in 1942. Dorothy followed her future husband, Thomas Stauffacher to Virginia where they were married on October 10, 1942 at Ayer Massachusetts, following him to 2 more Military Camps. Then she went to West Bend Aluminum Plant and made shells for the Navy, then to San Francisco, to weld on Liberty Ships, then back to Monroe to work for her dad tending bar at Eddie's Tavern, until Tom came home from the War. Dorothy then worked at Maple Grove, Swiss Wheel, and at the St. Clare Hospital X-Ray department retiring in 1985. She was a member of St. Victor Catholic Church, was an active Volunteer for the Apostolate to the Handicapped, and enjoyed traveling with her husband, Tom.

Surviving are her son, Terry (Kathy Allendorf) Stauffacher of Monroe; daughter, Jill (William) Kilian of Monroe; sister, Isabell, out West; grandchildren, Thomas (Patti) Stauffacher, Carrie (Brian) Wyss, Tara (Aaron) Koehn, Stephen (Kristi) Stauffacher, Amy (John) Bartlett, & Katie (David) Cline; and great-grandchildren, Payton & Jade Stauffacher, Alex Landen, Joe Wyss, Brode Koehn, Ryan & Audrey Bartlett, and Jared & Allie Cline. She was predeceased by her parents and husband in 2000.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 17, 2010 at St. Victor Catholic Church in Monroe with Monsignor Thomas Campion Celebrating. Private burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home in Monroe.

Memorials to Monroe Clinic Hospice and Apostolate to the Handicapped in Dorothy's memory would be appreciated.
