Doris Mae Rear-Hustad, age 90 of the New Glarus Home, formerly of Blanchardville, died on Friday evening, March 18, 2016 at the New Glarus Home with her family at her side. She was born on August 25, 1925 to Oscar & Clara (Thompson) Vamstad on the family farm in rural Blanchardville in Green County, Wisconsin on York Center Road. She grew up living and working on the family farm. She attended the York Center rural school and graduated from the Blanchardville High School in 1942. She attended Augsburg College for a year. She then moved to Madison and worked at Baron's Department Store as a bookkeeper. She was married on March 17, 1946 in the Blanchardville Lutheran Church to Clifford Rear. They farmed together in rural Blanchardville until 1986 when they retired to New Glarus. Doris worked at the New Glarus Home in the kitchen for around 20 years. Clifford died on October 4, 1989. She was later married to Rolland Hustad on January 31, 1998. They lived in New Glarus. Doris was baptized and confirmed, and was a lifelong member of the York Memorial Lutheran Church, and the Women of the ELCA. She was in church choir, and was a Sunday School teacher and superintendent there. She was a card club member for 50 years. Doris loved cooking and cleaning and spending time with her grandkids. She loved hosting family gatherings, was a 4-H leader and enjoyed following local sports which many of her family were a part of.

Doris is survived by her husband, Rolland Hustad of New Glarus; three children, Bruce Rear of Monroe, Brian Rear of Blanchardville, and Connie Moen of Blanchardville; three step-children, David (Carol) Hustad of New Glarus, Bonnie (John) Whalen of Verona, and Holly (Eugene) Kundert of Monroe; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren with 1 on the way; 7 step-grandchildren; 8 step great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law Dorothy and Ruth Vamstad. She was preceded in death by her husband Clifford; her son Franklyn Rear in 2012; two brothers, Everett who died in 1998 and Oscar who died in 2016; and a daughter-in-law Laurie Rear who died in 2012.

A visitation for Doris will be held on Wednesday evening, March 23, 2016 at the York Memorial Lutheran Church in rural Blanchardville at the intersection of highways 78 and 39 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Thursday morning, March 24, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the church. Rev. Kalen Barkholtz will officiate. Burial will be at the York Memorial Cemetery.
