MADISON - Dolores H. Niles passed away on Wed. July 24, 2013.
Dolores was born April 2, 1933 in Fort Atkinson WI to Sherman (Lois) Hodgson and Helen E. Wilson. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1951. She received her B.S. ('55), M.S. ('66) and Ph.D. ('80) from The University of Wisconsin-Madison. Over the course of her career as a Psychiatric Social Worker she held the following positions: Director, Alcoholic Treatment Center, Mendota State Hospital, Director of Out Patient Services, Dodge County Mental Health Center and President of Human Services, Inc. In 1980 she joined the faculty of the U.W. Madison as an Assistant Professor. In this capacity she served as Program Coordinator, Division of Professional and Human Development, Chair, Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Studies, Associate Dean, Continuing Education Extension Division, and Director, Wisconsin Survey Research Laboratory. Dee's passions were her children, issues concerning women, children and minorities, reading and chocolate. In 1977 she attended the first National Organization of Women conference in Houston. In 2000 she fulfilled her lifetime dream of visiting China. She is survived by a son Lawrence (Grace) Niles and daughter Deborah (Ross) Niles-Turner; grandchildren, John and Tara Turner; sisters, Mary Hodgson Brown and Julie (Mike) Kostera. As well as many loving friends. She was preceded in death by her father Sherm, mother Lois and sister Elizabeth. A private celebration of Dee's life and processional were held at Agrace HospiceCare in Madison, WI. Her strength, love and wisdom will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
