Daryl M. Pagel, age 85 of Monticello, died Friday, January 25, 2013 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. Daryl was born June 17, 1927 in Orangeville, IL, the son of Manuel and Hulda (Morris) Pagel. Daryl served in the National Guard for three years before his marriage to Marie Neuenschwander on December 26, 1948 at Grace Lutheran Church, Monroe. Daryl and Marie farmed in Juda, Albany, and for the last 55 years in Washington Township. He was a faithful member of the Washington Reformation United Church of Christ. Daryl loved his family and enjoyed working with wood, his draft horses, hunting, traveling, playing cards and board games.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marie Pagel of Monticello; two daughters, Joyce (Larry) Hummel of Monticello, and Janice (Ray) Forney of Forreston, IL; five grandchildren, Julie (Earnie) Ruegsegger, Steve Hummel, Robert (Stephanie) Forney, Lisa Kaehler, and Laura Forney; a step-grandson, Ray (Doreen) Forney; eleven great grandchildren; two brothers, Allan (Rosemarie) Pagel of Denmark, WI, David (Karen) Pagel of Juda; a sister, Mary (Leonard) Harrison of Belvidere, IL; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Doris Seffrood.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at the Washington Reformation United Church of Christ, Monticello, with Pastor Mary Gafner officiating. Visitation will be at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in Daryl's name for the Washington Church.
