MONROE - Dale R. Meyers passed away on (April 20, 2010) after a courageous two year battle with lung cancer. He always said he was given a day to be born and there would be a day to die.

He was born December 7, 1940 in Monroe, Wisconsin, the son of Arthur and Thelma (Anderson) Meyers. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Crotty on September 22, 1962 in South Wayne, Wisconsin at St. John's Catholic Church.

Dale graduated from Monroe High School in 1958 and served in the US Army from 1959-1961. He worked for a total of 51 years as a Service Manager within the auto industry in Monroe: Marty Ripp Chevrolet (13 years), Bienema Olds-Cadillac (23 years) , and Charles Dearth (15 years) . He retired in November of 2009. He and Dorothy also cleaned for Century 21 Real Estate. He was a member of St. Victor Catholic Church and a volunteer for the Apostolate to the Handicapped.

Dale was an avid sports fan and participated in countless softball games over the years throughout the area. He was a die-hard Badger, Brewer, and Packer fan and also enjoyed listening to the local Cheesemaker games on the radio. He was respected for his work ethic, honesty, sportsmanship, and commitment to serving his customers. Most important was that he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who always put the needs of family first.

He is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 47 years; children Kelly Meyers of Oregon; Kurt (Niki) Meyers of Verona; Kent (Kim) Meyers of Monroe; and Kara Jo (Michael) Meyers of Madison and grandchildren: Mack, Luci , Ben and Anja. He is further survived by siblings: Harris and (Carol) Meyers, Monroe; LaVon and (Don) Prien; Luana and (Joseph) Wels all of Monroe; sister-n-law Ruth Meyers of Brodhead and countless friends from his softball playing days and within the car service industry.

In addition to his parents, his brother Stanley and an infant brother preceded him in death.

A visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 pm on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at the Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home in Monroe, Wisconsin located at 1455 Mansion Drive. Funeral Services will be held at St. Victor Catholic Church in Monroe with Con-Celebrants Monsignor Thomas Campion and Fr. Michael E. Klarer at 10:30 am on Monday, April 26, 2010. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery immediately after the service with graveside military rites by Zilmer Riley American Legion Post # 84.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in the name of Dale Meyers to the Apostolate to the Handicapped or the Monroe Clinic Hospice.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many friends and relatives who provided compassion, comfort, and support during these past two years. Additional appreciation is extended to the Hospice Workers from the Monroe Clinic; Dr. Hegeman and the nurses of the Monroe Oncology Department; Dr. Kuhntia and staff of UW Carbone Center.
