WINSLOW - Dale N. Spinhirne, 77, of Winslow, passed away at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport on January 29, 2009. Dale was born on February 18, 1931 in Bulan, Kentucky, the daughter of Napoleon and Edith (Smith) Napier. Dale was married to Delvin Spinhirne on December 24, 1957. He preceded her in death on June 27, 1988. For many years they owned and operated Spinhirne Hardware and Electric in Winslow, IL. In 1963 they started the L&S Gas Corporation in Warren, IL, and she continued to be active in the business. Dale served as a Winslow Township Trustee for more than 20 years, a member of the Paradise Cove Committee and was very active in Winslow River Days. She served as past Precinct Democratic Committeeman and was past secretary for the Northwest Illinois Propane Gas Association.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly (George) McPhillips of Winslow, IL and Brenda (Joseph) Gates of Taylor Ridge, IL; three grandchildren, Jacqueline (Andrew) Vanderheyden, Mitchell Gates and Brianne Gates; four great-grandchildren, Nathan, Colton, Jackson, and Alexa Vanderheyden; three sisters, Mary Lena (Sidney) Hurt of Hazard, KY, Wilma Kay Spurlock of Jeff, KY and Lottie Rowland of Nicholasville, KY; three brothers, Wallace (Linda) Napier of Berea, KY, Elzia Darrell (Peggy) Napier of Beaver Dam, KY and Eugene (Charlene) Napier of Grey, KY; one brother-in-law, Kearney Fritsch of Monroe, WI. Also surviving is her extended family, Linda Lashmet and family of Jacksonville, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Martha Ann Combs and Reva Fritsch, and a brother, Napoleon Napier Jr.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, February 1, 2009 at Leamon Funeral Home in Winslow. Officiating is Pastor Margo Peterson and Larry Cropper.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Leamon Funeral Home in Winslow.
Burial will take place at Rock Lily Cemetery in Winslow.
