DARLINGTON - Claribel B. Burke, age 90, passed away on July 20, 2010. Claribel was born February 26, 1920, to Frank and Katherine (Connelly) Gough. She was a member of the Darlington High School Class of 1937 and graduated from the Platteville Teacher's College. She taught at a one room schoolhouse in the Town of Seymour. On February 1, 1947, she was united in marriage to Laurence Burke at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on December 6, 2003.

Their marriage was blessed with eight children: Msgr. Michael Burke of Madison, Frank (Ann) Burke of Lake Forest, Ill., Joseph (Julie) Burke of Dodgeville, Thomas (Connie) Burke of Madison, Mary Christianson of Onalaska, Kathleen (Joseph) Laubmeier of Madison, Ann (F. John) Reichling of Darlington, and Margaret Burke, deceased in 1973; 22 grandchildren: Michael, Daniel, John, Thomas, Margaret, Jared (Desiree), Jason (deceased in 1981), Jennifer, Jeremy (Megan), Elizabeth, Lisa and Rachel Burke, Anne, Sarah and Michael Christianson, Andrew and Matthew Laubmeier, and Christopher, Katherine (deceased in 1981), Colleen, Patrick and Jeffrey Reichling; and one great-grandchild, Ethan Burke.

Claribel and Larry farmed in Seymour all their lives. She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, where she was active in the Council of Catholic Women and taught religious education classes. She was a member of The Catholic Daughters of the Americas court #843 in Shullsburg since 1946. Claribel was also an active member of LARC (Lafayette Association for Retarded Citizens) and volunteered many hours in their workshop in Shullsburg. Claribel was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who will be sadly missed by all.

Claribel is further survived by sisters-in-law: Josephine Burke, Veronica (Gary) Garrison, Mildred Burke all of Darlington, and Patricia Burke of Hazel Green; and many nieces and nephews. Claribel also was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters: Mary McComish, Anna Gough, Eileen Lacke, Lillian Gough, and Bernardine Pendergast.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at OUR LADY OF HOPE CATHOLIC CHURCH, County Trunk O, rural Shullsburg, with the Rev. Msgr Michael Burke as celebrant and Fr. Dominic Roscioli as homilist. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 23, 2010 at STEIL CAMACHO FUNERAL HOME, 206 E. Harriet St., Darlington, with a Rosary service to be held at 3 p.m. Friends may also call from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Steil Camacho Funeral Home in Darlington.
