Clara Blumer

Clara Blumer, age 88, of Monroe, died on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the Monroe Manor Nursing Home. She was born on February 15, 1922, the daughter of Jacob and Bertha Oppliger. Clara married Fred "Fritz" Blumer on May 4, 1963 at the Swiss Church in New Glarus. Prior to her marriage, Clara worked as a telephone operator in Mt. Vernon and New Glarus. After her marriage, Clara made cheese with her husband at the Richland Cheese Factory, and later worked at the UTELCO Telephone Company for many years. Clara was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and the Monroe Swiss Club. She loved Yas, Eucher, and bowling, which she did up to this last year.

She is survived by her son John (Christine) Blumer of Monticello; grandsons: Peter, Austin, and Nicholas of Monticello; sister-in-law, Avis Oppliger of New Glarus; many nieces and nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews, plus other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fritz, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. at St. John's United Church of Christ. Officiating will be Rev. William T. Mike Heath, with burial in the Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, Monroe.
