MONROE - The City of Monroe Storm Water Utility and Street Department reminds residents that it is against city ordinance to deposit any refuse or debris into the street. This includes grass clippings, leaves, dirt and limbs.
When it rains, the debris is washed into the storm inlets causing back-ups or running into streams. In the fall during leaf collection is the only time leaves are permitted to be placed in the gutter. The department reminds residents that grass should be placed in a clear bag with a yard waste sticker. It will be picked up on the regular refuse collection day or it can be brought to the street department for free yard waste drop-off.
The department free yard waste drop-off days are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and 7 a.m. to noon Saturdays on: April 11 and 21; May 2, 12 and 23; June 6, 16 and 27; July 11 and 21; August 1, 11 and 22; September 5, 15 and 26; and October 10, 20 and 31.
