Felonies

• The court, Sept. 22, sentenced Graciano M. Martinez, 23, Monroe, to 30 months in prison and three and a half years probation after he pleaded guilty to burglary.

He faced more than 12 years in prison and up to $25,000 in fines as part of the plea agreement for the class F felony.

The court dismissed one count of theft, a class A misdemeanor. He originally faced more than 13 years in prison and up to $35,000 in fines.

Court records indicate he entered a business June 12 in Monroe.

• The court, Sept. 22, sentenced James P. Schmelzer Sr., 49, Brodhead, to three years probation after he pleaded no contest to fleeing an officer.

He faced more than three years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines for the class I felony.

Court records indicate he tried to flee from officers when signaled to pull over Dec. 31 in Brodhead.

• The court, Sept. 23, entered into an 18-month deferred prosecution agreement with Matthew W. Lawry, 19, Oregon, who pleaded no contest to attempting to flee an officer.

The court will dismiss the charges in 18 months if he complies with the terms of the agreement. He faced more than three years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines as part of the plea agreement for the class I felony.

The court dismissed one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, an unclassified misdemeanor.

Court records indicate he fled from officers after he was signaled to pull over April 3 in Albany.

• The court, Sept. 23, scheduled an Oct. 6 district attorney conference for Cody L. Cromwell, 21, Lancaster, who pleaded not guilty to bail jumping charges, attempted battery and disorderly conduct.

Court records allege he threatened a man, hit a woman and pushed another woman June 21 in Monroe. He was on bond at the time of the incident. He was convicted of resisting/obstructing an officer and disorderly conduct in 2008.

He is charged with bail jumping, a class H felony, two counts of misdemeanor bail jumping, both class A misdemeanors, attempted battery, a class A misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct, a class B misdemeanor, all as a repeat offender. He faces more than 17 years in prison and up to $36,000 in fines, if convicted.

In a second case, the court, Sept. 23, scheduled an Oct. 6 district attorney conference after Cromwell pleaded not guilty to bail jumping.

Court records allege he failed to appear Sept. 3 in Green County Circuit Court for a preliminary hearing.

He is charged with bail jumping, a class H felony. He faces more than six years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines, if convicted.

He remains jailed on a $1,000 signature bond.
