Ramiro Garcia Varela, 40, address unknown, was charged in August with a sex registry violation, a Class H felony that carries a maximum prison term of six years. Varela, formerly of Monroe, was convicted in 2000 in Green County of second-degree sexual assault of a child and placed on the Sex Offender Registry. Around the same time, he was also convicted in Stephenson County, Illinois, of aggravated sexual abuse of a child (age 13-16) and sentenced to five years in prison before being deported to Mexico in 2004. In 2014, court records indicate he was arrested in Jefferson County and subsequently served three and a half years in a federal prison for illegal reentry to the United States. In July, he was again deported to Mexico. "Since that time, there has been no communication from him to report a new residence," as required by the Sex Offender Registry, according to court documents. A warrant is issued for his arrest. Varela has a long list of aliases, including Antonio Aguilar Santiago and Ramiro Varela Garcia.
Cody Allen Rackow, 21, Orangeville, was charged in August with child abuse, a Class H felony, and disorderly conduct, a Class B misdemeanor. The charges carry a maximum prison term of six years, three months. Court records indicate Rackow punched a teenage family member three times in the head during an argument Aug. 20 at a residence in the 2500 block of 10th Street in Monroe. The teen "woke up lying on the floor in a pool of blood." Rackow has a pre-trial conference Oct. 17.
Nathan A. Tempel, 36, Lena, was charged in August with four Class I felony counts of failure to pay child support. Each count carries a maximum prison term of three years, six months. Court records indicate he failed to pay child support between July 2014 and October 2016. A warrant is issued for his arrest.
Tiffany-Lee Chastity Holzer, 32, incarcerated, formerly of Cushing, Oklahoma, was charged in August with six Class I felony counts of failure to pay child support. Court records indicate she failed to make the payments between May 2013 and December 2016. She signed a $5,000 signature bond and pleaded not guilty to the charges. She has a status conference Oct. 26.
Trenity Jerry Wright, 27, Monroe, stood mute Sept. 14 on a first-degree charge of recklessly endangering safety, a Class F felony, and false imprisonment, a Class H felony, as well as misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and resisting or obstructing an officer. The charges carry a maximum prison term of 19 years, six months. The charges stem from an incident Aug. 29 at Wright's residence in the 1700 block of 17th Street in Monroe. Court records indicate he held a knife to a woman's throat during an argument over Suboxone, a prescription medication used to provide relief from opioid withdrawal and cravings. Police reports show that during the incident, Wright had "ingested an unknown quantity of prescribed medications," chugged half of a liter of vodka and claimed he was "high on crack." He has signed a $10,000 signature bond with the conditions that he not consume intoxicants or controlled substances for which he doesn't have a prescription, go into bars or liquor stores or possess any knives or dangerous weapons except "cutlery for culinary purposes only." He has a pre-trial conference Nov. 7.
