Justino Hernandez-Chavez, 36, Darlington, was granted a one-year deferred prosecution Aug. 25 on a Class H felony charge of strangulation and suffocation, stemming from an incident at his Kennedy Drive home on Dec. 28. Court records indicate he got angry over lost apartment keys and became violent and abusive toward a woman at the apartment, in front of her children. She later told police this was not the first time he was violent toward her and she feared he was going to kill her because of the pressure he applied on her throat while strangling her. A Class A misdemeanor charge of battery was dismissed in the case. Hernandez-Chavez is ordered to successfully complete domestic violence counseling, pay the court a $343 fine and not drink or go into bars or liquor stores. If he complies with the conditions of his deferred agreement, the district attorney will move for the court to dismiss the case.
Nicholas S. Bennett, 28, Dubuque, Iowa, was found not guilty by a jury Aug. 21 of a Class G felony charge of theft of property with a value greater than $10,000, as a party to a crime. The jury deliberated for 30 minutes before returning the not-guilty verdict. The charge alleged Bennett stole several hand tools and 20 Nascar model cars in July 2014.

Randy Joseph Theill, 55, Cuba City, was granted a one-year deferred prosecution Aug. 26 on two Class B misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct, stemming from an incident Nov. 6 at a farm on Mine Road, Town of Elk Grove. A Class A misdemeanor charge of battery was dismissed. Court records indicate Theill was arrested after police responded to a family dispute over selling steers. Conditions of Theill's deferred agreement include paying a $243 fine and undergoing a behavioral health assessment. The charges will be dismissed if he complies with the agreement.
Amanda J. Anderson, 33, Argyle, was charged Aug. 20 with three Class A misdemeanor counts of writing worthless checks in the amounts of $51.88, $23.47 and $35.17 to the Argyle Cenex gas station, 108 W. Milwaukee St., in February and March. Pleas of not guilty were entered in the case Sept. 28 on all three counts. Anderson has a scheduling conference Oct. 12.
Wendy L. Daugherty, 32, Mankato, Minn., was charged Aug. 20 with two Class A misdemeanor counts of writing worthless checks in the amounts of $40 and $30 to the Argyle Cenex gas station, 108 W. Milwaukee St., on May 11 and May 31. A warrant was issued for her arrest Sept. 18.
Ciara Rita Kammes, 24, Darlington, was charged Aug. 26 with two Class A misdemeanor counts of resisting or obstructing an officer, stemming from phone calls she allegedly made in June to the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department. Court records indicate she pretended to be someone else to report harassment to a deputy, causing hours of time to be wasted in an investigation of her claims. Pleas of not guilty were entered in the case Sept. 14. Kammes has a scheduling conference Oct. 6.
Ana Gabriela Garcia-Diaz, 25, Darlington, was charged Aug. 26 with an unclassified misdemeanor count of violating a harassment restraining order. Court records indicate she violated the terms of a harassment injunction by being in the presence of a woman at a laundromat on Wells Street in Darlington on May 4. Garcia-Diaz signed a $1,500 signature bond Sept. 29 and has a pre-trial conference Nov. 24.
Matthew Jeffrey Wilson, 24, Argyle, was charged Sept. 9 with a Class A misdemeanor count of taking and driving a vehicle without consent and a Class B misdemeanor count of domestic abuse-related disorderly conduct, stemming from an incident July 5 at a home on Milwaukee Street in Argyle. Court records indicate he took and drove a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan belonging to a woman he knows. She also told police he was intoxicated and caused a disturbance, yelled at her and threw her stuff. A $150 cash bond was posted on Wilson's behalf the same day. Pleas of not guilty were entered in the case Sept. 28. Wilson has a scheduling conference Nov. 9.
Oscar Martinez-Herrera, 25, Darlington, was charged Sept. 10 with a Class A misdemeanor count of battery and a Class B misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct, stemming from an altercation with another man July 15 in the 500 block of Galena Street in Darlington. Court records indicate Martinez-Herrera initiated the altercation during a custody exchange of two toddlers. He signed a $1,500 signature bond Sept. 29 with the condition that he have no violent or abusive contact with the man. He has an adjourned initial appearance Oct. 27.
Julius Raymone Schaeffer, 28, Darlington, was charged Sept. 24 with a Class B misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct and a Class A misdemeanor count of resisting or obstructing an officer, stemming from an incident April 13. Court records indicate Schaeffer was verbally abusive with a woman he knows at an apartment on Keep Street and when she tried to leave, he followed her out to her car "completely nude" and sent her abusive text messages. Soon after, while being arrested on warrants out of Grant County, he was reportedly uncooperative, argued with deputies and "made a scene." He has an initial appearance Oct. 12.
