FELONIES

• Shane David Riley, 31, Monroe, was charged April 28 with a Class I felony count of failing to comply with an officer and misdemeanor counts of criminal damage to property, trespassing and disorderly conduct. Riley was charged after he reported a burglary on April 26 at 1811 8th St. Monroe. When police arrived on scene, they found a broken window at the residence and Riley on the building's roof. Riley was evidently paranoid and believed that the police were secretly members of a Mexican drug cartel come to assassinate him. Riley also audibly racked the action of a shotgun. Eventually, however, police were able to negotiate with Riley and convince him to turn himself in. Riley's preliminary hearing will take place July 5. His maximum possible sentence is 1.5 years in prison.

• Kevin Donald Beckwith, 39, Albany, was charged May 2 with a Class G felony count of intimidating a victim and a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. Beckwith's charges stem from a domestic disturbance on April 30 in the 200 block of South Water Street in Albany. According to a criminal complaint, Beckwith was reportedly drunk and swearing at a woman before he seized her, tried to take her phone and pushed her. Beckwith claimed that the woman had attacked her first in a tavern bathroom. Beckwith's preliminary hearing will take place June 13. His maximum possible sentence is five years in prison.

• John Lyle Carothers Muszynski, 25, Monticello, was charged May 8 with three Class H felony counts of bail jumping and a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct after an incident on March 10 in the N5300 block of Wis. 69, Town of Washington. Muszynski reportedly was involved in a domestic dispute wherein he shouted at a woman, unplugged a phone she was using and took a title to a vehicle from her. He also reportedly headbutted the woman during the altercation. This violated Muszynski's bond from previous domestic abuse and possession of marijuana cases. Muszynski will appear in court for a preliminary hearing June 15. His maximum possible sentence is nine years in prison.

• Joy Lynn King, 49, Freeport, was charged May 9 with a Class I felony count of substantial battery and a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. King was charged after she broke a woman's nose in a fight at the Trailside Inn in the Town of Cadiz on Feb. 3. King reportedly punched a bartender in the face after the bartender questioned King, who, in the commotion of another fight caused by a different person, attempted to take money from the bar. King's initial appearance will take place June 5. Her maximum possible sentence is 1.5 years in prison.

• Clayton Stewart Welte, 21, Janesville, was charged May 10 with a Class I felony count of possession of methamphetamine after a suspicious person was reported in the 700 block of 12th Street in Brodhead on May 8. Welte was found speaking in slurred and erratic speech and behaving strangely. Police searched his person and found a plastic baggie containing a white powder and a cardboard placard reading "Clayton Welte's Crystal Meth." The baggie was found to, indeed, contain crystal meth. Welte's preliminary hearing will take place July 11. His maximum possible charge is 1.5 years in prison.
