FELONIES

• Steve A. Johnson, 46, Monroe, was sentenced Wednesday to a year in jail and four years of probation, to be served concurrently, after he pleaded guilty to fifth-offense operating while intoxicated and no contest to misdemeanor domestic abuse-related disorderly conduct. Felony counts of operating with a prohibited alcohol content and bail jumping were dismissed. Johnson will have work-release privileges during his jail sentence as long as he remains sober, court records indicate. His driving privileges were revoked for two and a half years. He is ordered to complete treatment and counseling as his probation officer deems appropriate, according to police documents, and he must pay court costs and supervision fees. A court official said Johnson owes $4,178 in fines. Judge Thomas Vale gave Johnson the sentence recommended by Assistant District Attorney Jeffrey Kohl. Johnson's attorney Dennis Sieg asked for less jail time, saying an entire year behind bars was excessive. When Vale gave Johnson an opportunity to address the court, he said in the past year he started attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and joined the Catholic Church. "Alcohol isn't good for me," he said. "I drink and bad things happen." The OWI charge stemmed from a July 7 incident in which police arrested and jailed Johnson after stopping him on 19th Street at 13th Avenue. The disorderly conduct charge stemmed from a December 2013 incident in the 1400 block of 19th Street in which Johnson was arrested and jailed.

MISDEMEANORS

• Emily A. Revel, 18, Albany, and Jami N. Thomas, 22, Walterboro, S.C., were each charged with domestic abuse-related disorderly conduct June 19 for allegedly pushing and hitting each other May 21 at a Brodhead residence. According to police records, neither appeared in court Monday and bench warrants were issued for their arrests. The incident started when Revel and Thomas, who had been dating and living together for three weeks, found out they would no longer be able to live with Revel's grandparents because they were selling their house. Revel told police Thomas became upset and started yelling at her. She said she tried to push him outside and lock the door but he pushed back on the door, sending her backward into a refrigerator. She also alleged he hit her on the chin with his forearm. Thomas denied pushing or hitting Revel and told investigators she slapped him in the face multiple times. Both were arrested, jailed and released after posting bond.

• Jose A. Garcia, 35, Monroe, was charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct Monday for allegedly entering an apartment Saturday night in the 300 block of 4th Street where he was not welcome, picking fights and yelling and swearing at police outside the residence. Court records indicate Garcia signed a $1,000 signature bond Tuesday. He is ordered to remain sober and not contact the residence or two people who live there. Police responded to a report of a fight at the apartment involving about 10 people at 7:50 p.m. Saturday. When officers arrived, a woman who lived there told them she wanted Garcia gone. Officers asked Garcia to leave and not return. He reportedly went back into the residence later and was arrested. According to court records, he resisted when police tried to put him in the back of a squad car and they pepper-sprayed him in the face. Police noted in their report that his breath smelled of alcohol, his eyes were glossy and bloodshot and his speech was slurred. Garcia "was intoxicated to the point of having difficulty standing," police wrote. He was taken to the Monroe Clinic Emergency Room to be medically cleared, and then to jail. He has an adjourned plea hearing July 6.
