FELONIES

• Darrin William Demrow, 38, Brodhead, and Jillan Ann Gowen, 30, Brodhead, were each charged in June with a Class I felony count of possession of narcotics and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. The two were charged after an incident on June 3 in the W500 block of Mary Lane, Town of Decatur. Police were called to the scene after Demrow apparently overdosed on heroin. Demrow was revived through the application of the opioid suppressor Narcan. The duo were arrested after police found several syringes at the scene containing heroin. The two face maximum possible sentences of 1.5 years in prison.

• Trevor Robert Frie, 26, Monroe, was charged in June with a Class I felony count of second-offense possession of marijuana. Frie's charge stems from an incident on June 9, when he was found sleeping on a stranger's porch in the 1400 block of 10th Street in Monroe. Frie told responding officers that he had marijuana in his pocket and, true to his word, produced a bag containing 1.3 grams of the substance. Frie signed a $2,000 signature bond on June 13 with conditions that he consume no controlled substances. His preliminary hearing will take place July 12. His maximum possible sentence is 1.5 years in prison.

• Steven Ernest Goecke, 45, New Glarus, was charged in June with a Class H felony count of strangulation and suffocation, a Class H felony count of false imprisonment, two misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and a misdemeanor count of battery. Goecke was charged after a domestic abuse incident was reported June 10 in New Glarus. A woman reported that she had badly twisted her ankle and wanted to have it examined by a doctor, but Goecke refused to let her leave the residence. The woman said Goecke repeatedly said he had "taken her hostage," pinned her against the floor, slapped her and covered her mouth to stifle her screams. She also said Goecke, at one point, pressed a knife against his own wrist as a threat before dropping the knife and continuing his assault of the woman. The woman said this went on for two hours before she was able to escape to another room and call the police. Goecke signed a $2,500 signature bond June 14 with conditions that he not drink, possess any firearms or dangerous weapons, or have any violent or abusive contact with the woman. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 27 and his maximum possible sentence is six years in prison.
