GREEN COUNTY FELONIES
A warrant for the arrest of Douglas Michael Artman, 36, Callahan, Florida, was filed Dec. 2 on four Class I felony counts of failing to make child support payments for a period from September 2012 to September 2015. Artman is required to make weekly child support payments of $61.20. Because of his failure to do so, Artman faces a maximum possible sentence of six years in prison.
A warrant for the arrest of Justin Lee Buelteman, 23, Monroe, was filed Dec. 13 on a Class H felony count of using false ID information to avoid a legal penalty, as well as a misdemeanor count of obstructing an officer. The charges arose from an incident on Dec. 2, when officers stopped a vehicle in Monroe for a broken taillight. The driver and her passenger were cooperative and the encounter ended with the officer citing the driver for driving with open intoxicants. However, it was later revealed that the passenger, discovered to be Buelteman, had used his brother's ID information to avoid being arrested on a probation warrant. Buelteman has not yet been arrested. The maximum possible sentence for his charges is three years in prison.
Gary Mccennis Burk, 60, Blue Island, Illinois, was charged Dec. 13 with a Class I felony count of theft, three Class H felony counts of uttering a forged check and three Class H felony counts of misappropriating ID information. Burk was charged after an incident in November 2014 when Burk, apparently in collusion with others in the state, used forged payroll checks from DDS Trucking LLC to steal $4,618.01 from three Sugar River Bank locations in Brodhead, Belleville and the Town of Jefferson. During the police investigation, it was revealed that, around the same time period, five other individuals in the state had performed similar scams, stealing more than $55,000 together in 13 different jurisdictions. Burk was also implicated in similar incidents in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois and Indiana. Burk was caught later that month attempting to cash another check at a different bank. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 30. His maximum possible sentence is 19.5 years in prison.
A warrant for the arrest of James Jamelle Bey III, 24, Kenosha, was filed Dec. 15 on a Class H felony count of failing to report to jail on a 2014 burglary case. Bey was scheduled to report to the Green County Jail for a six-month jail sentence on Aug. 14; he failed to do so and now faces a maximum possible sentence of three years in prison.
Andrew N. Allen, 64, Freeport, was charged Dec. 16 with a Class H felony count of bail jumping and a misdemeanor count of retail theft after an incident on Dec. 8. Allen was seen leaving a store with a small television and video game console, together valued at about $170, that he had not paid for. This action violated his bond from another retail theft case earlier this year. He faces a maximum possible sentence of three years in prison. His initial appearance will take place Jan. 23.
Kayla M. Geyer, 19, Monroe, was charged Dec. 20 with a Class H felony count of taking a vehicle without the owner's consent. On Dec. 13, Geyer's grandmother discovered her vehicle missing from her Monroe residence. Geyer soon admitted to using the vehicle to drive to Rockford but claimed she would not be able to return the vehicle, as it was out of gas. As her grandmother had not permitted Geyer to take the car, police action was taken. Geyer's initial appearance is scheduled for Jan. 9. The faces a maximum possible sentence of three years in prison.
