FELONIES

• Andy J. Markham, 39, Juda, was charged Wednesday with false imprisonment, a felony, and battery for allegedly hitting a woman he knows July 23 and holding her against her will while he drove about 50 miles from Monroe to Monona. Due to previous convictions, both charges carry "repeater" enhancers, meaning he could face three years in prison if convicted on all counts. The victim reportedly told police she was at Monroe's Sir Buk's, W5222 County KK, and had arranged for Markham to pick her up and drive to another bar in Monroe. According to police files, he arrived, she got in the back seat and he said they were going to Madison. When she said she didn't want to go there, Markham and a woman sitting in the front passenger seat turned around and repeatedly hit the victim in her head, face, arms and upper body, court documents show, causing pain and bruising. She reportedly told investigators they locked the doors and took away her phone. While Markham was driving, he encouraged the other woman to hit the victim, according to police reports. After Markham let the other woman out at a Monona residence, the victim allegedly managed to escape and sprinted to the nearest residence with lights on. When Monona Police Department officers made contact with her, they reportedly observed she was breathing heavily, wasn't wearing shoes and had a lump on her forehead, cuts on her face and bruises on her arms. Court records indicate Markham signed a $4,500 signature bond and a $500 cash bond Thursday and is ordered not to drink, go into bars or liquor stores, consume nonprescription controlled substances, or contact the victim or Sir Buk's. He has a preliminary hearing Aug. 7.
