Charles M. Hughes, age 72, of Monroe, Wisconsin died on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. He was born on August 17, 1938 at Fayette in Lafayette County, Wisconsin the son of Maurice and Rosalie (Miller) Hughes and graduated from Monroe High School in 1958.
Charles and Yvonne Brekke were married on June 13, 1964 at St. Victor Catholic Church in Monroe. Charles worked at Krogers, IGA, and Pick 'N' Save food stores for many years. He was a member of St. Victor Catholic Church, was a volunteer at the Food Pantry, and lifelong blood donor.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Hughes of Monroe; sons, James M. Hughes, Jeffrey (Heidi) Hughes, Joel M. (Ellen) Hughes, and Jason Hughes; brothers, Joseph (Betty) Hughes, Maurice (Kay) Hughes; sisters, Mary Maurer, Margie Marti, Pat (Norm) Grunder, and Ellen (Joe) Milz; sister-in-law, Darlene (John) Suchorski; and grandchildren, Hayley, Jacob, Therese-Marie, Patrick-Joseph, Clare-Michaela, Samuel-Joseph, Ethan, and Charlie. He is predeceased by his parents; granddaughter, Elizabeth "Libby"; sisters, Helena Bregenzer & Barbara Murphy; and brother, Michael Hughes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at St. Victor Catholic Church in Monroe with Fr. Michael E. Klarer, Fr. Michael Moon, Fr. Patrick Hilgendorf V.F. as Con-Celebrants. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Monroe.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home in Monroe with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m.
