Charles L. Figi, age 90 of McFarland, formerly of Monroe, died Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at HospiceCare in Fitchburg.
Charles was born August 31, 1918 in Monroe, the son of John H. and Minnie (Kleeberger) Figi. He graduated from Monroe High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He married the love of his life, Carol Schneider on Feb. 22, 1944 in Monroe.
He served in the Army Air Forces from March 17, 1944 until being honorably discharged on Oct. 30, 1945. Charles worked as a field manager for Standard Oil Company for many years until his retirement. Mr. Figi was a longtime member of the Monroe Lions Club and was the interlocutor for the club minstrel show for several years. He was a member of the Monroe Country Club where he volunteered many hours landscaping and planting flowers.
He is survived by his two daughters, Robin and Francine; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and his beloved cat, Murphy. Charlie will be dearly missed by the Gonzalez Herrera family who were his caretakers for the last four years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on April 29, 1997; a son, Jerry Figi; two brothers, John and Mig; and a sister, Gertrude.
Private graveside services will be held in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Memorials may be given in Charles' name to the Green County Humane Society. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family.
