Charles J. Svoboda, Jr., age 88 of rural Argyle, WI, passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at his home. He was born August 12, 1920 in Chicago, IL, the son of Charles and Antoinette (Bastar) Svoboda. Charlie graduated High School in 1938. He later went to a trade school to learn Tool and Die making. Charlie married Rosemarie Gannnon in 1943. Charlie served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946 on the USS Intrepid. He was injured while serving on the USS Intrepid following a Kamikaze attack and later helped clean up Pearl Harbor. He lived in Chicago until 1954. Charlie was united in marriage to Martha Wheeler-Swift in March of 1972 in Chicago. Charlie worked as a Tool and Die maker in the Chicago area until his retirement in 1982 when he and Martha moved to rural Argyle to take care of his father.

Charlie is survived by his wife: Martha at home; four children: Charla (Tom) Sirtoff of Boling Brook, IL, Marsha (Frank) Patellaro of Evanston, IL, Julie (Larry) Schwartz of Sebeka, MN, and Charles Svoboda of Nevada; four step-children: Jerry (Judy) Swift of Avondale, Arizona, Mary (Bob) Guazzo of South Elgin, IL, Patricia (Joseph) Catanzaro of Des Plaines, IL, and Sharon (Paul) King of Cicero, IL; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandson; 10 step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Joseph Svoboda of Downers Grove, IL, George (Marilyn) Svoboda of Lakemoor, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, and first wife: Rose.

He enjoyed photography, camping, fishing, and tinkering in his yard.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2008 at the Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle with Larry Schwartz officiating. A visitation will be held at 1 p.m. until the time of services at the Erickson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Wheeler Town Cemetery in McEwen, Tennessee.
