MONONA - Carol R. McIntyre, age 77, of Monona, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. She was born on Nov. 21, 1933, in Monroe, the daughter of Raymond and Caroline (Schneider) Schroeder. Carol was raised in the farming community around Juda where she graduated from Juda High School in 1951. She would have celebrated her 60th class reunion this year. Carol was united in marriage to George McIntyre on June 7, 1965. She and George have lived in Monona for the past 40 years, the first three years as owners of The Village Store on Winnequah Road. Some of you will remember her as that nice lady behind the counter, others perhaps as your Avon Lady. As youngsters, more than 100 of you called her "Gramma Carol" as she watched over you while your parents worked. Gramma Carol's house was an extension of the love and care you received at home. She loved all of you and had the uncanny ability of remembering each of your birthdays. Carol held a special place in her heart for granddaughters Valerie and Angela, as she devoted several years filling the role as their mother and for grandson Noah Ferguson, filling the same role for more than 17 years. Carol's abilities were many and she pursued some of her passions; sewing for the kids and grandkids, doll making, crocheting many afghans for her kids and grandkids, cake decorating and collecting Beanie Babies. Her collection of Beanie Babies exceeded 2,500. Carol is survived by her husband of more than 46 years, George; seven children, Cherri (Jim) Gilbertsen of Albuquerque, N.M, Craig Ferguson of Windsor, Conni Marino of Albuquerque, N.M., Cami Ferguson of Madison, Charla (Jim) Jankowski of Madison, Brian (Gwen) McIntyre of Sun Prairie, and Keith (Kristen) McIntyre of Windsor; nine grandchildren, Valerie Weir of Minneapolis, MN, Angela (Glen) Richard of Thibodaux, LA, Travis Boley and Nicholas Boley of Sun Prairie, Denise (Edgar) Alonso of Sun Prairie, Noah Ferguson of Monona, Carissa Carol Ferguson of Windsor, Susan Beth McIntyre of Windsor and Samuel Reese McIntyre of Sun Prairie; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Johnson and Marie (George) Stanke, both of Monroe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Caroline; sister, Joyce Conway; nieces, Wendy Conway and Tammy Lindsey; and grandson, Anthony Boley. Funeral services will be held at Gunderson East Funeral Home, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 30, 2011. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
