DARLINGTON - A tracking system to locate people with autism or dementia who have wandered off is expected to be functional in Lafayette County before July 1, thanks to donations that exceeded a $6,000 goal.
Lafayette County Sheriff Scott Pedley announced Thursday, May 30, that his department received nearly $9,000 to date in donations for the "Care Trak" initiative.
The donations surpassed the $6,000 goal set in mid-April on May 16.
"The people of Lafayette County and surrounding areas have been very generous with their financial donations," he said. Money also came in from residents in Iowa, Grant and Dubuque counties. "We are very grateful for the tremendous support of this program."
The additional money "will be used to sustain the program long into the future," he said.
The program is designed by Care Trak Systems, Inc., a company out of Murphysboro, Ill. Care Trak wrist bracelets emit a radio signal and are used to help find autistic children or adults afflicted by dementia.
