BRODHEAD - A Brodhead man is facing felony charges of child abuse after family members reported him Sunday evening, Jan. 1, to the Green County Sheriff for strangling and threatening an 11-year-old girl.
Jeffrey Scott Harding, 42, made an initial appearance in court Tuesday, Jan. 3, for Class H felony charges of child abuse and strangulation/suffocation and a Class B misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct.
He was arrested at 7:16 p.m. Sunday at the Monroe Clinic, following an incident reported earlier in the day at a residence on Park Road in Brodhead. He allegedly was drunk and confronted the child, threatening her and squeezing his hands around her neck.
Harding's signature bond has been set for $4,000, with stipulations that he have no contact with the victim and not possess or consume any intoxicants. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Jan. 20.
If convicted on the two felony charges, he could receive up to $20,000 in fines and 12 years in prison.
