BRODHEAD - Gaylord L. Johnson, age 80, of Brodhead, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at the Monroe Manor Nursing Home, Monroe.

BRODHEAD - Gaylord L. Johnson, age 80, of Brodhead, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at the Monroe Manor Nursing Home, Monroe. He was born on November 3, 1929, the son of Palmer and Hilda (Simonson) Johnson. He married Betty J. Perington on October 1, 1955 at the Orfordville Lutheran Church, Orfordville.

Gaylord had worked for Fischer Body of Janesville before working for the Rock County Highway Dept. as a road patrolman, retiring in 1989. Gaylord was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Brodhead, American Legion Post 209 of Orfordville for 56 years, Sons of the American Legion for 31 years, volunteered at the V.A. Hospital for 18 years, and Sgt. Of Arms for military funerals.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; three children, Wade (Barb) Johnson, Mauston, WI, Gwen (Jim) Swain and Rodney Johnson, both of Brodhead; a brother, Art (Virginia) Johnson, Rice Lake, WI; four grandchildren, Beth and Mitch Johnson, Andrew and Lindsey Swain. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Glenville and Harold.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 6, 2009, at the D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD, WI, with Pastor Kenneth Schaub officiating. Burial will be in the Avon Community Cemetery with full military rites. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
