BRODHEAD - Arthur Herman Gessert, age 72, of rural Brodhead, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at his home. He was born on December 31, 1935 in Wood County, Wisconsin, the son of Karl and Martha (Block) Gessert.
Art attended rural schools in the Marshfield area, and junior high and high school in Wisconsin Rapids. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Following the service, he earned his biology degree from UW-Stevens Point. Art was a retired General Motors - Janesville employee.
He is survived by a sister, Luella Foth, Marshfield, WI; a brother, Allan Gessert, Belgrade, MT; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Arnold, Leo, Gerhart, Robert; five sisters, Laura Drackley, Rosina Dye, Edna Miller, Arline Jensen, and Jeanette Ley.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2008, at the D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD, WI, with Cal Schaver officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead, with military rites.
