Arnold E. "Arnie" Fryer, age 80 of Monroe, formerly of Cadiz Township, died Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Monroe. Arnie was born June 26, 1932 in Red Oak, IL, the son of Clarence and Grace (Scheider) Fryer. He graduated from Orangeville High School in 1950 and served two years with the U.S. Army while stationed in Germany. He married Arlene J. Haeft on January 10, 1960 at the Peace United Church of Christ, Browntown. Arnie and Arlene farmed outside of Winslow, IL until moving to their farm in Cadiz Township in 1963. They retired and moved to Monroe in 1997.
He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Browntown, P.C.A. Board of Directors, Green County 4-H leadership, Antique Wheelers, and Monroe Moose Lodge #754. Arnie enjoyed his John Deere Tractors, traveling the world especially to China, Hawaii, and Australia, and playing Euchre.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda (Gregory) Becker of Juda, and LuAnn (David) Welling of Dakota, IL; five grandchildren, Lindsay (Tim) Goeke, Kevin Becker, and Cody, Brian, and Derek Welling; a great-granddaughter, Arlena Goeke; and a sister, Mary Lou Krahmer of Lena, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arlene, on Feb. 19, 2009; a son, Larry Fryer in 1988; a brother, Lyle Fryer; and a sister, Mabel Allen.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., at the Peace United Church of Christ, Browntown, with Rev. Randy Booth officiating. A luncheon will be held at the church followed by burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund will be established in Arnie's name for the Monroe Moose Lodge.
