Arlene J. Fryer, age 72 of Monroe, formerly of Browntown, died Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Pleasant View Nursing Home.
Arlene was born November 25, 1936 in Browntown, the daughter of Arthur and Bessie (Brecklin) Haeft Stauffacher.
She attended Browntown school and graduated from Monroe High School in 1955. Arlene and Arnold E. Fryer were married on January 10, 1960 at the Peace Church in Browntown. They farmed in Winslow, IL for two years before moving to Cadiz Township where they farmed until 1997. Arlene also worked at Oaktron Industries for several years.
She was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Browntown, the Mother's Club at Browntown School, and the Women of the Moose #599.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren, sewing, playing euchre, cross-stitching, and traveling to places such as Israel, China, Mexico, South America, and most of Europe.
She is survived by her husband, Arnold Fryer of Monroe; two daughters, Linda (Gregory) Becker of Juda and LuAnn (David) Welling of Dakota, IL; five grandchildren, Lindsay Becker (fiancé Timothy Goeke) Kevin Becker, Cody, Brian, and Derek Welling; a sister, Shirley (Willis) Schmoldt; a brother, Robert (Mary) Stauffacher; and a sister-in-law, Betty Haeft, all of Monroe.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father and stepfather, William Stauffacher; a son, Larry Fryer in 1988; and two brothers, Eugene Haeft in 1995, and William Gary Stauffacher in 1950.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at Peace United Church of Christ, Browntown, with Rev. Raymond Sowersby officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. A memorial fund will be established in Arlene's name.
