MADISON - Arlene Bahler, age 94, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2011, at Karmenta Center. The former Arlene Louise Hartwig was born in Jordan Township, Green County, on June 23, 1916, the daughter of Henry and Lena Sterchi Hartwig. She graduated from Monroe High School with the class of 1934. Arlene married Sam W. Bahler on Aug. 4, 1940, in St. John's Evangelical Church, in Monroe. They resided in Lafayette and Green Counties where Mr. Bahler was a cheese maker prior to moving to Monona in 1959. Arlene was employed by the Wisconsin Department of Revenue for many years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of St Stephen's Lutheran Church, in Monona. Arlene is survived by her son, Kent (Sandra); and two grandchildren, James and Sam, whom she dearly loved. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam in 1999; her father in 1917; her mother in 1974; sisters, Edna (Hartwig) Rufer in 1981, and Alma (Hartwig) Zimmerman in1988; brothers, Ben in 1984, Frank in 1982, Robert in 1984, and Leon in 2005. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, with the Rev. Tim Hansen and the Rev. Nick Utphall presiding. Burial will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe, at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2011. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4:30 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. Arlene's family wants to thank the staff at Karmenta Center, Dr. Al Musa, and Bette McCauley for their kindness and support.
