Alma W. Johnson age 88 of Monroe, formerly of Albany, Wisconsin died Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. She was born August 28, 1925 in Warren, Illinois, the daughter of Alfred and Flossie (Luke) Schneider and graduated from Winslow High School.
Alma married Bernell V. Johnson on June 16, 1944 at Winslow United Methodist Church. Alma worked at Burgess Battery in Freeport and was a nurse's aide at St. Clare Hospital in Monroe - retiring in 1984. She was a member of Albany United Methodist Church, McDermott-Steindorf American Legion Post #144 Auxiliary - serving as treasurer, and enjoyed dancing, playing cards, word puzzles, taking friends to places, working at Legion functions, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are her daughters, Charlotte (Gene) Schuetz of Ligonier, IN, Bev (Frank) Rielly of Shullsburg, WI, Linda (Bob) Sonnenburg of Monroe, WI, and Sherri (Shawn) Johnson Amacher of Monroe, WI; son, Gary (Deb) Johnson of Ligonier, IN; brother, LaVern (Ilene) Schneider of Winslow, IL; sister-in-law, Dorothy Schneider of Freeport, IL; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Bernell; daughter, Janet Evans; brothers, Walter, Delvin, Wilbur, Ralph, Cletus, and John Schneider; sisters, Viola Retzlaff, Lucille Gill, and Pearl Minder; and great-great-granddaughter, Sofia Jo Kubly.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Drive and N. 18th Avenue in Monroe with Pastor Pat Soddy officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Albany.
Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, at the Funeral Home.
