Alice Faeser Woelffer, age 88 of Monticello, died on Friday, May, 11 2012 at St. Clare Friedensheim, Monroe. Alice resided in Monticello, WI for more than 50 years and moved to St. Clare Friedensheim in January 2012. She was born on May 1, 1924 in Monroe, the daughter of Fred and Alvina (Lang) Faeser. She and her family lived in many homes in Monroe including a stint at the Green County Jail. Her father was the Green County sheriff and in those times, the sheriff's family lived in the jail, which is now The Jail House Tap. Alice graduated from Monroe High School in 1942, worked for Wisconsin Power And Light and bowled in the companies Ready-Kill-o-Watt league. She met her husband, Royal Woelffer Jr. of Monticello, while working at the Goetz Theater in the ticket booth.
Alice loved having a family and enjoyed flowers, photography, animals and reading. She appreciated the rural beauty of Green County and Lake Montesian and often could be seen taking photos of flowers, people and animals. Alice loved to read and she knew the capital of every state. She enjoyed her friends and the lovely shops of Green County. She was a member of Zwingli United Church of Christ, Monticello.
Royal and Alice married on June 24, 1954 at St. John's United Church of Christ in Monroe, WI and lived in Monticello. Royal owned Woelffer's Drug Store in Monticello fro many years. The Woelffers enjoyed their home and the view of Lake Montesian. Royal died on March 17, 1998. Survivors include: three children: Julie (Toyo) Ishida of Tofield, Alberta Canada, Jan Woelffer of Chicago and Todd Woelffer of Middleton and two grandchildren, Danny and Tariq Ishida of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She was preceded in death by two half-sisters, Frances Frederick and Helen Faeser; and a brother in infancy.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., at Highland Cemetery, Monticello. Rev. Lawrence Balleine will officiate with a lunch to follow at Zwingli church. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be given in her name to the Green County Humane Society. The Voegeli-Newcomer Funeral Home, Monticello, is assisting the family.
